all the way back home i'm telling you i caught the sun creeping up behind my shoulder, another day's begun
12 October 2002 - 2:59 pm

it's so beautiful today, everything is sunny out my window. sunny and hazy. i need to ride my bike through ladd's addition because the tree cathedral is best in the fall when the leaves are yellow. i never ride my bike to downtown anymore because i never go anywhere and i'm too tired from riding to and from school. but the tree cathedral is a good incentive. i could go to burgerville on hawthrone, right at the other end. like riding through a fairy tale and finding yourself in the warehouse district. i remember when i first saw the ladd's rose gardens, when donna and i walked to brannon's apartment on 21st and hawthorne from meow meow in the middle of the night. it was wet outside and he took us to see the rose garden, and it was so enchanting with the moon making the roses glisten. you don't expect to find a block full of roses, do you?

i have to do a photo assignment this weekend on "the series and the singular". a group of photos, and a single photo, with each having the same meaning or being about the same thing. i can think of a lot of multiple photo ideas, but no corresponding single image. i get obsessive about things. my favorite idea for a series is to take a picture of one thing (like my wall, a tree, the street). and take a picture every 15 minutes for an entire day and then line them up in a row and see how that feels. i'd have to expose and print them all at the same aperture and speed, and it would make a gradient, morning, afternoon, evening, the shadows would change. but how do you express that in one picture. or walk down a street and take a picture every 10 steps or something.

yesterday donna and i wandered around northwest and downtown, and i bought 2 shirts and a jacket and some groceries. donna got a marionette frog at the kite store, and while we were waiting for the bus we made it walk and dance on the sidewalk. people walking by liked it a lot.

i think donna and dave have been up all night, i can hear them talking, dave is doing his funny voices.

love, becky
