we got back to portland yesterday.   it took 2 days to hitchhike here from napa.   the first day we didn't wake up until 1, and by the time we walked to the highway about 4 miles away, it was getting late.   but we used a shopping cart to push our stuff all that way.   three rides later we were in some crappy town called ukiah, where we hitchhiked for an hour in the freezing cold until my feet went numb. no one would pick us up.   we went and ate bad french fries at a restaurant and warmed up.   we went out for another hour but still no one stopped, so we decided to stay up all night in the truck stop since it was too cold to sleep outside.   we sat at a booth in the diner for 7 hours.   for the first 3 hours we didn't even order anything, and the waitress didn't care.   then we started drinking coffee and around 5 am we got some toast.   i was in the bathroom at 6 am and i thought i felt an earthquake, but i figured it was just cause i'd had too much coffee.   i thought i must be going insane until a while later i overheard some lady talking about an earthquake and it turned out there really was one.  it started getting light then so i went outside and took pictures....
