the end of december, i'm writing you now just to see if you're better
28 December 2002 - 12:47 pm

i just got back from the airport where i dropped my parents off. we are trying to decide what to do today. what to do. which one to do.

donna just spilled water all over the floor of her room.

this week was fun. on thursday we all went to see the nutcracker ballet, and it was the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. the costumes and sets and production was so extravagent and surreal, especially when all the toys were dancing and the rats were bowing to the rat king and then the rat king came out on top of an enormous present. there was glittery snow falling from the sky, and all the ballerinas were perfect. ever since i read this really depressing article by baudrillard about the simulacra i've been looking for evidence that things aren't that bad. for some reason a hugely ornate ballet production comforts me that everything isn't meaningless...

we also drove to this place out in the country called silver falls and walked around this forest in the rain taking pictures of the waterfall. it's nice to get out of the city sometimes, it's always a surprise.

yesterday we spent making cookies and putting together stellated icosohedrens from an activity book i got. it's fun to make complicated shapes. donna cuts them out and i glue.

i have to go have an adventure now. bye bye!!
